Prokhorovka is an urban locality and the administrative center of Prokhorovsky District of Belgorod Oblast, Russia, located along the Psyol River southeast of the city of Kursk. Besides being a beautiful location and a great example of the beauty of the Russian countryside, this place was the location of the Battle of Prokhorovka, which took place on 12 July 1943.
This engagement was the biggest and most important part of the wider collision - the Battle of Kursk, which happened between 5 July 1943 and 23 August 1943. This was the biggest tank battle in the history and a turning point of the Second World War, as it stopped the German advance into Soviet Union and led to the Soviet counter-offensive.
